Completion date: 2013
The fittings performed in the Danuta Baduszkowa Music Theatre in Gdynia was carried out in three phases, and included the works on the Chamber and the Main Halls.
The Musical Theatre in Gdynia was established 1958. For our company it is a special institution, because it is related to the beginnings of the
P.S. TEATR.
In 1970, the theatre’s architectural project by architecture engineer, Mr. Daniel Olędzki and architecture professor, Mr. Józef Chmiel was chosen. In 1971, the theatre’s building started, but also problems with the contractor, responsible for the technology designs, began. Facing such circumstances, eng. Jerzy Gumiński together with the authors of architectural project –Mr. Józef Chmiel and Mr. Daniel Olędzki, organized their own Specialized Project Team. The group was then enlarged by notable specialists –
dr eng. Witold Straszewicz, eng. Wilhelm Staszewski and eng. Wiesław Kinderman.
The designer’s team managed to achieve innovative solutions for its time. The building of the Musical Theatre’s was completed in 1979 and the theatre itself soon became one of the most important and popular cultural institutions in Tricity.
P.S. TEATR also participated in reconstruction and modernization of the facility, which began in 2010. Extension project was designed by architecture professor, Mr. Józef Chmiel, the technology project’s author was engineer Mr. Jerzy Gumiński, the construction coordinator, stage machinery and stage drives system designer was engineer, Mr. Tomasz Zaborowski and the stage machinery design was created by engineer, Mrs. Małgorzata Bober. Within the framework of the modernization process the works included, inter alia, the New Stage, beeing built from a scratch, and the Grand Stage auditorium enlargement. Owing to this fact, the facility became Poland’s biggest musical theatre. Its auditorium is capable of fitting in almost 1600 people (Grand Stage – 1070, New Stage – 360 and the Chamber Room – 150).
As part of the contract, covering the complex stage technology fittings of stages of the Chamber Room and Grand Hall, the P.S. TEATR delivered 62 pcs. of moving heads by Vari*Lite (VL 3500Q Spot and VLX) and DTS (XR 3000 and NICK), as well as 60 pcs. of LED PL3 reflectors by Philips Selecon, 120 Profile luminaires by Selecon (SPX) and Spotlight (Evolution), 24 conventional lighting apparatus, as well as 2 followspots Vedette by Spotlight. The fitting’s complementation is the 15 000 ansi Lumen projector. The technology lighting system, supported by a set of digital voltage regulators for over two hundred circuits, based on such equipment makes even the most challenging performances possible.
The audience lighting and non-regulated circuits controlling system of the Grand Stage, New Stage, and foyer is based on the state-of-the-art HDL BUS Pro system, allowing a fully automated control of circuits – both, individual and in groups – according to the programmed schemes from multiple access points. Control of the halogen lighting of the audience, as well as decoration LED’s is performed via DMX signal.
The Theatre’s Main Stage has been fitted with a proscenium lift with a Spiralift drive, together with a lowered, tripartite railing. Above the auditorium and in the proscenium area there had been a total of 13, electrically driven stage barrels, and above the stage – 11 new electrically driven stage barrels, installed. Also 30 manually driven stage barrels had been modernized, and the drives for two stages had been replaced.
The New Stage of the Musical Theatre has been equipped in an innovative stage machinery system, which main elements include 15 electrical point hoists, mounted on the computer controlled guides, enabling the setting of each hoist in any desirable place on the stage and audience. In addition, there had been 5 stage barrels (two for lighting and three on the proscenium), and 8 DIVO chain hoists by Trabes installed.
The drives system has been based on microchip controllers. All devices are being controlled via computer based Console (fitted with 15’’ touch screen), which enables a precise determination of their movement parameters: speed, positioning, breaking distance, synchronization with individual drives or all drives checkup.
