Katowice
Completion date: 2014
In July 2014 the modernization of the Prof. Aleksander Kaminski’s Youth Palace in Katowice came to an end. Opening of the facility took place over 60 years ago, because the first official opening took place in 1951. The main objective of the started in 2011 works, was to refresh and modernize the facility. The additional challenge was to deal with the work on the subject being awarded the status of a relic. The resort has already been modernized in previous years, but never on such a large scale – the completed renovation included both the building’s interior and its exterior façade, and not, as in previous years, only single laboratories. As part of this investment, the P.S. TEATR performed work on the stage mechanics, but also stage mechanics lighting fittings, the stage sound system and stage manager’s intercom communication. Stage lighting system was designed by Eng. Tomasz Zaborowski, Eng. Małgorzata Bober was responsible for the design of the mechanics.
The renovated Palace of Youth, among others, has been fitted with the popular Source Four spotlights by the American company ETC – a set of 12 pcs with 15 °-30° and 25° -50° optics each. The equipment involved also products of the Italian brand Spotlight – Combi series reflectors with PC lens: 8 pcs. Combi 25 PC (4° – 66°), 24 pc. of Combi 12 PC (4° – 63°) and 4 pcs. of Combi 25 Zoom (17° – 36°). The whole installation was complemented by 4 Black Gun UV lamps, 10 symmetric floodlights Ribaltina 1000W, specially designed for use short-projection spotlight reflector Vedette 1200W and 8 of LED Delta 8 R Full Colour floodlights with a 12° fixed angle of light. In and modern and multifunctional facility of such class, we could not miss the intelligent lighting equipment – moving heads. A set of 4 VL 3500 and VL Q Spot AS ERS 1100 heads each, 2 pieces of Vari-Lite VLX and XR 3000 SPOT CMY DTS were installed.
The lighting realization is possible thanks to the reliable and easy-to-use ChamSys MQ300 Pro 2010 Execute console, supporting 2048 DMX channels. The installation also includes Wallrack 7 digital dimmer by Strand Lighting, 5 DMX Splitters CH6 by DTS and 5 wireless DMX transmitters by City Theatrical – the ShowBaby, awarded at the LDI 2011 fairs in the best product category.
In addition to the mentioned devices, the Palace of Youth in Katowice was equipped with Base Hazer smoke machines by Hazebase, the Z1020 and DNG 200 by Antari, thanks to which it will be possible to achieve even more spectacular effects.
Additionally, the power control of the non-regulated and working circuits, as well as regulated audience lighting via DMX and DALI protocols in the main theatre is performed by the room’s lighting system – the HDL BUS Pro.
The Youth Palace saved the original wooden window shutters, and the bas-reliefs and ceiling incrustations have been refreshed. The newly opened theater room is ready to accommodate approx. 450 spectators. The upgraded Youth Palace’s room combines historic interiors and modernity, which is why the work on this project was a particular challenge for us.
